Marriage in heaven or for those resurrected...

this is one thing that has always bothered me.

i know that when we are married, that when one mate dies, that the marriage is disolved; but when both mates die; for example at the same time (car accident, or whatever..) if all that die do actually end up going to heaven, does that mean that they will not be together once again??

according to some scriptures, it states we will all be given in marriage to jesus.

This never made much sense to me either. I don’t know how I feel now about it, being that I don’t give these things much thought these days. But the only thing that I thought of at the time with the illustration of the 7 men that shared a wife, (you’ve got to feel sorry for her, bet she was pleased when she heard Jesus say she won’t have to be married again) is if the marriage was dissolved from all of them, then she would be free to marry to whom ever she chose. They would all be in a single state. (that is for those who had the earthly resurrection)

I don’t know about worrying about being married in heaven. Imagine the suffering if your marriage goes on into hell……….!!!!

Anyone else feel like an emotional mutant at this time of year?

i've been attempting to infiltrate my friend's christmas traditions in an attempt to understand and appreciate the holiday.

i only had christmas until i was 5 when my mom converted to jw.

before that, christmas was really big in our house.

Hi Tall Penguin,

I think that it is easy to underestimate the impact that the conditioning has been in your life as a JW. Also I suppose that being a JW has shown you how fake all of the religious thing really is. But it might be that because it was never put into your heart as a child that you have no fond memories of these times, and that is the difference between "us and them".

But yes, I can relate to the experience you describe. I think that the "isolated and alone" part might be due to the fact that you can see that there is no emotional interaction inside of you like your friend has, of which you can’t relate to. I might be wrong.

A lot depends on the woman appointed. There was a sister in the congregation that I went to who was so hell bent to be someone. She wished she could be an elder and she took great pride in the fact that she saw herself as an "older sister". But she was one of the biggest militants I have ever met in the org. She didn’t have any ability of compassion whatsoever. The amount of people she hurt was unforgivable.

Best not to assume that a women would be anymore compassionate than any man, although I will say that they do tend to be. But in my old hall, most of the women badly lacked compassion and I don’t think they would have made good elders. Saying that, the elders that were there were pretty crap as well. Do we have to have elders anyway?

Although, imagine having a judicial committee with 3 hot women elders, talking about your sexual exploits in front of them. That’s going to be my fantasy for the next few days. Wonder how I would be disciplined……???

a couple of days ago i asked for advice because the elders have got on my case and wanted to come and see me.

my jw son and his wife are the only ones who know my feelings on the borg.

i also told them some home-truths about the wt, so i wasn't sure if they had turned me in or not.

ok, just foudn this forum, been left the jw's 11 years now and never looked back, i am a male 46 from the uk, while being a jw i was depressed and had no real goals in life, except what they wanted.. now i have been at college these last 3 years, got a teaching qualification and now doing a degree, oh and i also have my youngest son who is 10, enagaging in motorcycle racing, another no no for them jw's.. and hey he leaves two expensive motorcycle in the paddock most times unattended and dfoes anyone steal them, nope, hmm seems that jw's do not have the monoploy on hoesty, not that many of then are that anyways.. .

Glad to see you have found this site. Glad to find that you are healthy and have moved on from your days as a JW. I have just started and finding things very difficult, but I hope to get sorted out. I am a few years behind you so you have given me hope.

Pleased your little one is doing something constructive. Can’t beat riding a bike. Did it in my time away from the truth the first time. Good hobby. But as you say, he would never have done it in the org.

I’m from the UK as well so doing that kind of sport is even harder hear. So good for you…..

Self-Esteem Shot To Pieces - No Friends

school sucked for me as a witness.. i always wanted to be popular, have friends, have a girlfriend, go to parties, play after school sport, stay the night at friends places, do all the other stuff which was fun and made you socially acceptable - which made you feel normal - but was disallowed because i was a witness child.. i thought everything everyone did at school was a direct test of satan on me.

that's what i was told.. so i tried to go through school living a "double life".

i desperatley wanted to be obidient to my witness mother who i loved so much and have her approval... so while i tried hard to pretend i wasn't a witness at school - for fear of being ostracized by my peers - i also was obviously "different" to my friends...and because of this i took a lot of shit for it and eventually became unpopular to the point where i dropped out of high school because i thought no one liked me.. for example: i would never "go out" with girls who wanted to go out with me... because i was afraid they would ring my home and my mum would be "disappointed in me" and angry and upset at me.

Hi Wheel,

I have just started off from where you are. It is very difficult. But just to say that there are some sites on the internet that have some good ideas. Try to think of your circumstances as someone who has just moved to a new town or city. They would have to look for new friends and get out and meet people.

Like has been said, you need to work out what you like yourself, which may be difficult if you have been subject to your mum and the organization, but think about what you have always wanted to do and write it on a list. Personally, I always wanted to do sports, so I looked up on the net about sports that I wanted to do in my area and I have been going to them since. It is going slowly and esteem is an issue same as you. But getting out and feeling fitter has helped a little just the short time that I have been trying, and bit by bit I am starting to fit in with new people. But it is early days yet…..
